20 Tips to taking better pictures

  1. The best camera to use is the camera you have on you. Learn the camera shortcut on your phone. 
  1. Slow down. Take your time to compose your image. 
  1. Do NOT use digital zooming. Use optical zoom only. If you need to get closer; get closer if you can. 
  1. Clean your phone camera lens. 
  1. Look your subject in the eye. Get down to your subject’s level. 
  1. Avoid distracting backgrounds. What’s in the background? 
  1. Take horizontal and vertical images. 
  1. Utilize the rule of thirds. Subject does not have to be at the center of the picture. Turn on your grid. 
  1. Make Your Subject Pop by Using Bokeh. Portrait mode in iphone 
  1. Look at your subject matter from different perspectives. 
  1. Use flash outdoors if needed (ie backlighting) 
  1. Watch the light. Position yourself or the subject in the best lighting. Open shade. 
  1. Don’t use flash indoors if not needed. 
  1. Stop overusing filters. It makes people look like plastic mannequins. 
  1. Use a photo editing app. My favorite? Snapseed. 
  1. Share your pictures via Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Twitter. Yelp, Appleshare via smart TVs. 
  1. Look at others’ photos and techniques. Follow them on Instagram, Facebook, etc. 
  1. Backup your photos. Google Photos, Amazon Photos. 
  1. Back up your high-resolution images on your PC. Get a portable hard drive. 
  1. Print your pictures. Save them as photo books, prints. Always use coupons.
